Get Hot Tequila!
Some like it hot, and chili hot!!
This weekend just so happens to be Super Bowl Sunday, and then Valentine's Day on Monday. I've got both my game, and Galentine's day party on with Paulina Rubio's Get Hot Tequila. That's right, the glamourous Mexican singer Paulina Rubio has her own tequila label too. How intriguing, a tequila infused with Habanero peppers. To be clear, this is true tequila 100% Agave Reposado produced in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, barreled at least six months, and then finished off with a Habanero infusion. Some like it hot, and me, just a touch of spicy sounds delish.
In anticipation of the gals getting together, and perhaps a super bowl party, I'm preparing a few special cocktails with Paulina's tequila.
Meyer lemon margaritas anyone?!?
Everyone loves the traditional margarita recipe. However, I love the unique citrusy sweet taste of Meyer lemons instead of limes to create this sweet and spicy margarita. There's something about the combination of sweet and spicy that makes the taste buds flutter. Meyer lemons add an eccentric twist to a simple lime-based margarita recipe. Giving it a little bit of sweetness with a luscious burst of citrus that every margarita is known for.
You'll need:
· Paulina Rubio's Get Hot Tequila Reposado Tequila
· Meyer lemons juiced, and remember to zest a few too
· Cane Sugar... the granular Cane Turbinado Sugar is perfect
· Sea Salt
· Roses Simple Syrup made with cane sugar
· Gran Marnier or an orange liqueur
· Crushed ice
The rim of your cocktail glass needs a salty sweet mixture. Begin with a couple tablespoons of the Meyer lemon zest on a salad plate. Add a teaspoon of Turbinado sugar, teaspoon of Sea Salt, and mix the lemon zest together with a fork. Ensure the zest mixture on the salad plate is a wide enough space for the rim of your cocktail glasses to fit. Wet the rim of your cocktail glasses with a little touch of the simple syrup. Then coat the glass rims with the zest mixture. The sugary stickiness of the simple syrup helps the zest mixture adhere to the glass rims.
In your cocktail shaker add a cup of crushed ice, 1/2 cup of Meyer lemon juice, splash of Gran Marnier or orange liqueur, a little bit of Simple Syrup, and two shots of Paulina's Get Hot Tequila. Shake well. Pour straight up in a Martini glass, or over crushed ice the choice is yours. However, please garnish the cocktail before you sip.
Garnish your cocktails with herbs like mint, cilantro, thyme, or some spicy Thai basil. Edible flowers like Mexican marigolds, dianthus, and baby tea roses make pretty cocktails too. I garnished my Meyer lemon margarita in the photo above with a sprig of mojito mint.
I'm sipping these spicy Meyer lemon margaritas with the Galentines on Sunday. We may decide to take in the movie "Some Like It Hot" , starring Marilyn Monroe versus watching the Super Bowl.
¡Felicidades!
P.S. Did you know the Mexican brunch cocktail version of a Mimosa is called a Tequila Sunrise. ¡Salud!
