“La Fiorita” in Italian means little flower. La Fiorita is also a little vineyard and winery located in the Tuscany wine region of Italy. The vineyard is located near the town of Montalcino and they produce beautiful wines called “Brunello di Montalcino”.
In Montalcino the name Brunello evolved into the designation of the wine produced there, and those wines exclusively made with 100% Sangiovese grapes.
Last week, I had the pleasure of having dinner at Roma, Houston’s hottest authentic Italian restaurant. Roma hosted their first in-person wine dinner featuring La Fiorita Brunello and it was divine.
Started off sipping a nicely chilled glass of prosecco and reviewing the wine dinner menu for the evening!
First course Bresaola appetizer. Bresaola is a thinly sliced air-dried salted beef served here with shaved Grana Padano, cherry tomatoes, sliced dried figs, and a marinated artichoke heart. A fantastic pairing with La Fiorita 2018 Rosso di Montalcino, and as Dr. Jeremy Parzen the Wine Director at Roma would call it a “baby” Brunello.
Second course Roma’s Risotto di Funghi, a mushroom risotto made with black truffles. It was a terrific food pairing with the 2015 La Fiorita Montalcino di Brunello.

Third course Costolette di Agnello. I do love lamb! Grilled lamb chop, fingerling roasted potatoes, carrots, and asparagus. Food paring was phenomenal, and the La Fiorita 2008 Brunello di Montalcino was dynamite!!

It certainly is not every day I have the opportunity to enjoy a magnum of the best Brunello. More over, it is not every day I have the opportunity to enjoy a dinner conversation with good friends. Especially good friends who love vino as much as I do.
Here in this photo are wine writers Katrina Rene The Corkscrew Concierge and Sandra Crittenden along with the beautiful Natalie Oliveros owner of the La Fiorita vineyard and winery in Montalcino, Italy.
A big thank you to my friend Katrina Rene for inviting me to Roma’s wine dinner as her plus one!
